If I need Premium/ISA 2004 should I install the rest of the service pack now?

A question from the blog comments that I want to bring up front... If you have SBS 2003 premium edition, you will GET ISA 2004 merely by ordering the service pack on CDrom and choosing the “Premium” drop down.  You don't need to “buy” it, just need to pay for shipping and handling.

I would not install the rest of the service pack without ISA for the very important reason that once you install Windows 2003 sp1 you will need a patch for ISA 2000 to fix Outlook over http...this is not an issue in ISA 2004, but is with ISA 2000.

So for Premium folks... order the cdrom.

If you install 887222 for ISA 2000, you should be ok installing the downloadable SP1 stuff now, but read the Premium Release Notes at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=46752. You can also install SQL Server 2000 SP4 now.

You will still want to order the CDs to upgrade to ISA 2004. If you are already running another version of ISA 2004, you must uninstall it before installing SP1, then after SP1 is on you must install the ISA 2004 version found on the SBS 2003 SP1 CDs.

Morning all, this is my first post to this forum, and you guessed it, I am in need of some help!

I have one of the first releases of SBS 2003 Premium edition installed on my server. I have installed all of the patches including SBS2003 SP1 approx 2 weeks ago with no problems at all. Yesterday I installed ISA 2000 (the version the came on my additional disk with the premium edition that was not installed as standard when the server was delivered). The reason for installing ISA 2000 was to monitor web usage which we had not done previous to this.

This is where my problem is, I would like to upgrade to ISA 2004 but have seen that it comes as part of SBS 2003 SP1 as an upgrade. The problem is that I had already installed the service pack prior to installing ISA 2000 (as it was an after thought).

My question is - what is the best way to upgrade ISA 2000 to the 2004 version?

Is it possible to un-install SBS2003 SP1 and re-install it now that ISA 2000 is present (so it upgrades ISA)?

Or can I install SBS2003 SP1 again without un-installing it and it will be intelligent enough to upgrade ISA 2000 as it has not done it before?

Or are my ideas wild and crazy and there is a much easier way of going about this?

Actually you just order the cdrom media of SBS 2003 sp1, you don't take off anything that you have and then you just run the disk 3 that upgrades the ISA 2000 to 2004. It is indeed intelligent.

Don't uninstall sp1.

Sorry for posting my question to the wrong place and thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

I have contacted Microsoft today and ordered the CD media of SBS2003 SP1. If I am reading you reply correctly I shoulld get 3 disks from Microsoft and I install disk 3 to upgrade my ISA 2000 to ISA 2004.

While I have you attention - once I have done this is it ok to install the service packs for ISA 2004 or will there be special ones to install if I am running ISA on SBS2003?
