If the washer starts saying "I'm sorry Susan, I can't do that", we're in big trouble
Today I was finally able to do a load of laundry. I had to wait to watch a DVD first. Seriously. We got these new front loading washing machine and dryer and it comes with an instructional DVD. So now I'm in laundry geek mode. Before doing wash was like... yeah.. right .. .now I'm throwing loads in while I'm typing up another section of my Patch Management book. Hmmm.. I've done the whites.... now... how about washing some colors? And if I put too much laundry detergent is flashes SUD on the screen and will run it automagically through a second rinse. Obviously there's a computer system in there and I'm thinking ... hmmmm wonder what it is programmed in? C++? Could I someday hook my washer and dryer notification into my SBS server? Perhaps it could IM me when the laundry is done? Perhaps it could email me when it's low on laundry detergent.. perhaps.... okay so maybe we can't do that now....
I currently have a Pronto Remote control that I don't put in Channel 03 for my ABC local TV show, I press the ABC channel Icon. Tim Stull [CITP geek buddy] talked about a pilot project in Texas where many things in the house were extremely remote controlled... from your desk at the office even. Look at all the technology INSIDE our house that we just totally take for granted.
I'm on IM with Gregg and he and I are chatting about the possibilities of Sharepoint and more integration with SBS 2003. Integration with Excel and Access. Integration even with Quickbooks to extract data. And honestly, all of that is not unrealistic at all. Quickbooks opened up a developer web site a year or so back and offers their SDK for download.
I've already pinged Scoble that I think a SBS box customized to have Windows Media edition clients would ROCK Tivo out of the water. All of this stuff is all about taking it to the next level.... as Emeril puts it.. more “bamm“. Automagically backup of the workstations. SQL server/Sharepoint database of music files. Think of the “bamm” level that could be done!
Okay... back to the patch management book and I think I need to do a load of dark colors now...
