You just shut down non delivery emails. In these day and age of spoofing emails, it's like the A/V notifications. They are totally meaningless.

It's also possible to keep NDR's going out, but strip the attachment (this avoids smtp lockout from the ISP if the attachment has a virus in it)

MS: KB555231

What about modifying the NDR return failure message through Exchange 2000? Specifically for when external users send to an address on the Exchange server that doesnt exist, can you modify that failure message? Ive looked all over MS and TechNet and cant seem to find it!

Thanks

Strip attachment from NDR

RESOLUTION
A system administrator may specify a size limit for original messages that will be attached to the NDR message. Messages that are larger the the limit specified will not be attached to the NDR message.
The following steps describe the procedure for configuring the limit:
1)Open the Registry Editor and point it to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMTPSVC\Queuing (if the Queuing key does not exist create it).
2)Create a REG_DWORD value called MaxDSNSize.
3)Enter the value of the limits in bytes.
4)Restart the SMTP service.
