PDC - PDC

While everyone is busy talking about PDC, me on the other hand stuck in MCi datacenter in Dublin. It's more than a week since I left my country. It's 7pm in Ireland, raining as usual, it's been like this since I was here 2 days ago from Birmingham.

I'm totally lost contact with the net for the past few days...... this trip is killing me, I have another week to stuck here. Now, waiting for Dell Ireland to replace some parts that they shipped wrongly, they claimed that I ordered the wrong one and I told them.. nope nope.. playback your tape recording and listen to what I've ordered. It's my fault in a way that I didn't check the confirmed order document, but there's just too many of items, it might be small amount for you.. but I have spent errr.. >250k pounds... yupe.. they paid in Uk and ship to Ireland, this is just the hardware cost, software is another XXXk... anyway, the real piss off is I called two days ago, and it's not even yet here... what the heck wrong with them.. .before you pay, they followup everyday with superb services, but now.. it just suX.

I rang my account manager many times.. left tons of voice msgs and she just replied "it's on the way". Ya right... 2 days ? I'm not sure about you.. if you ring Dell for support or account managment, 9 out of 10 times you end up with the bloody answering machine. sigh ! if you ring Sell dept.. you get it within 10secs........ what a good way to do business !

I'm done.. time for some take away....

Be safe.. surf without IE - 注意安全。。不要用IE游览

Just read this from a RSS feed, IE is the worst browser so far.... so many bugs and vulnerabilities, before this was Qhost, holysh*t..... not even a month with MS03-040: October, 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer. what do you think ? I personally can't take it anymore.. just sent a memo out to entire office to stop using IE for a while.

I was promoting
Avant Browser for quite a while, but now, after verify with some other MVPs, I will suggest you to go for Mozilla or Netscape. As Avant actually utilize IE components. There're more than a dozen unpatch loopholes within IE, this group PIVX orginally published all these threats, but it was pulled down after Microsoft start 'talking' to them, though a google cache will show you the list. so people ! “be safe.. surf without IE”......

New Blog - 新随笔

Well, thanks to Joy - a China's .NET MVP who offers me a new blog space at his site. So now I have two blogs - this + ff. You might wondering why 'ff' ? errr. My old nicks in the newsgroups or communities used to be 'BB' and 'FF'. BB stands for 'bad boy' and FF 'Final Fantasy' which I'm sure you heard about the game. I played many years ago, not really a big fan of the game but I just like to alphabet 'f' in a way :)

Do you hate Microsoft ? - 你恨微软吗?

Just finished reading Robert Scoble's longhorn blogs - technology evangelist for Microsoft Longhorn team

How to Hate Microsoft, checkout the feedback ! it's so hot ! personally ? I'm type 2 -  '2) Those who hate Microsoft but want to see it improve'... you ? In a way It's all about money, isn't it ? I mean you want 'some' product that really can help you in your business, say increase productivity, efficiency, and bla bla so that during the end of your financial calendar, you see some nice 'blue' figure in the book ?

So same apply to Microsoft, they don't just investing billions of dollars and get some 'crap' out ! and couldn't make any money with it. I remembered I read one book about IT business strategies quite sometime ago - there's a small case study about business model between Microsoft and Linux world. Guess what ? Microsoft's model rules the world.. and Mr. Gate is the richest man in the world whether you like it or not !

well, I don't like 'crap' either. just for the record - I do hate Windows 2003 new terms - 'secure by default, design and deployment'. This is so not true with the RPC exploits, I wasn't hit by it, but I was so happily promoting these 'words' in the local community.... and 'hit' by users that I'm err sort of promoting 'fake' information :(

Windows Shared Source Program - Windows 共享源代码计划

Great news for MVP, yesterday Microsoft announces Shared Source Licensing Program for MVPs !

'Microsoft is expanding its select list of developers who get to peek at the source code of more recent Windows operating systems, a move that expands its "Shared Source" program of giving governments and partners limited access to the code of its key products.....'

This is an excellent oppurtunity to understand how do Microsoft's developers 'CODE', I just wish I knew more about programming :) so if you are an MVP make sure you get your hand dirty with this.

Start - 开始

First of all, I would like to thank Jerry Bryant who provides this lovely blog space for MVPs. I got the login detail on last sunday, but was too busy planning stuff for monday's trip to UK. I flew on early tuesday morning - 00:25 Malaysia time, reached Birmingham, UK after 17 hours, was so exhausted. A co-worker pickup me up at the airport, not to rest but to the office straight away, coz it's only 10:45 in the morning of 21st. Have a short meeting, chit-chat, lunch, meeting again, beer, dinner, beer again and finally get into bed around 11pm. I have no ideas how I get to my apartment last night :)

why 17hrs ? well normally via Heathrow only took 13hrs plus. but you need to take a coach or train to get through Birmingham, this would take another 3hrs. so this time, I was arranged to stop by Amsterdam, Netherlands. Yupe ! 'the' place where most of the things you don't get in your country, you get it here!  well, I didn't actually get out from Schiphol, coz transit time only 3 hours, would be quite rush to get into town and back to the airport, so instead I was hanging around a coffebar and spend the 3 hours with my cig. I'm going up north again this weekend to Dublin. It's freezing out here, imagine from 27'c to 10'c ! now it just 2'c, tonight zero. oh ya. just in case you blur - I'm here for a new infra deployment for one of my company's client + few technical meetings with partners.

Ok, back to here. This blog is mainly for info related to IIS and Microsoft, also things that I found interesting and would like to share with you. A little bit background about me - I'm a Malaysian Chinese, a tech guy, been working for 7 yrs plus, started off with Microsoft and FreeBSD stuff, now mainly on Microsoft technologies. I mainly involve with solution consultation and infra design, used to be developer using VB4.0, can't stand the 'debugging' life and decided to go into system line. Begin participate in newsgroups back in 2000, and become active in 2001, just like drug addiction ‘in and out 24/7’. Where? Microsoft public newsgroups try the new web interfaces (Web News2) or connect your outlook express to here. It’s the best place to look for FREE! Microsoft Product supports.

At mid 2002, get into few local communities in China and Malaysia, refer the ‘My communities’ section and 2003 April I was awarded Microsoft MVP. Best things I get from Microsoft so far :) though it get confusing at first.. coz I’m a Malaysian MVP under US Lead (John) with local contact (Grace) from Microsoft China, so from time to time I get different MVP news and updates… that’s what make it so cool.

Well, it’s almost 7pm now… time for another beer.
