Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) resolves issues that were found in Exchange Server 2007 SP2 since the software was released. This update rollup is highly recommended for all Exchange Server 2007 SP2 customers.

For a list of changes that are included in this update rollup, see KB971534.

This update rollup does not apply to Exchange Server 2007 Release To Manufacturing (RTM) or Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For a list of update rollups applicable to Exchange Server 2007 RTM or Exchange Server 2007 SP1, refer to the Knowledge Base article KB937052.

Exchange Server 2007 will be supported on Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi Folks,

If you are planning to upgrade your entire infrastructure to Windows Server 2008 R2, then Exchange Server 2007 (in case you still have it :)) won't be an issue. Today, it was posted a note about that in the MSExchangeTeam, as follows:

We always talk about listening to customers and sometimes this is written off by many as 'marketing speak'. In fact, we do take feedback seriously and no input is more important to our engineering processes than your voice.

Earlier this year we made a decision in one direction, and due to the feedback we have received on this blog and elsewhere, we have reconsidered. In the coming calendar year we will issue an update for Exchange 2007 enabling full support of Windows Server 2008 R2. We heard from many customers that this was important for streamlining their operations and reducing administrative challenges, so we have changed course and will add R2 support. We are still working through the specifics and will let you know once we have more to share on the timing of this update.

Talking about Windows Server 2008 R2 and UC products, at this point OCS 2007 R2 is not supported on Windows Server 2008 R2, so keep your OCS infrastructure running on Windows Server 2008 for now. :)

MS Exchange Team released RU 9 for Exchange SErver 2007 SP1 but keep in mind that Exchange Server 2007 SP2 is just around the corner and it will bring all updates of the current RU 9 as well.

Last Friday the Exchange Server 2007 management pack for SCOM R2 was released. Check this out:

The Exchange Server 2007 Management Pack is designed to monitor Exchange 2007 key health indicators, collect Exchange component-specific performance counters in one central location, and raise alerts for operator intervention as necessary. By detecting, sending alerts, and automatically responding to critical events, this Management Pack helps indicate, correct, and prevent possible service outages or configuration problems, allowing you to proactively manage Exchange servers and identify issues before they become critical. The Management Pack monitors and provides alerts for automatic notification of events indicating service outages, performance degradation, health monitoring, and centralized management.

Note: This Management Pack requires Operations Manager 2007 R2.

Feature Summary

A number of synthetic transactions ensure the Exchange servers are available and responding in a timely manner. The synthetic transactions are maintenance-mode aware, so that if the target of a transaction is in maintenance mode, the source will not run the transaction, and not alert unnecessarily.
This Management Pack includes a Management Pack template that provides a wizard-like interface for configuring synthetic transactions against Outlook Web Access (OWA), Exchange ActiveSync, Web Services, POP3, and IMAP.
This Management Pack includes a Management Pack template that provides a wizard-like interface for configuring mail flow synthetic transactions between agent-managed Exchange 2007 Mailbox servers.
This Management Pack provides 30+ reports specific to Exchange 2007 that track availability and performance compared to service level objectives. For the list of reports and for more information about the reports, see the Management Pack Guide.
All the synthetic transactions in this Management Pack use an Operations Manager 2007 R2 hosting feature for Windows PowerShell technology that provides a performance improvement when running synthetic transactions.
A significant number of rules and monitors that are not actionable or may be noisy are disabled. Note that many of these rules are still in the Management Pack so that you can enable them if necessary.
Support for monitoring any number of Exchange organizations using a single Operations Manager 2007 management group.
Full support for Microsoft clustered configurations. For more details, see the Management Pack Guide.
Discovery of Exchange 2007 server roles is disabled by default, and no Exchange 2007 monitoring is applied by default. This allows you to discover and monitor your servers gradually, as well as tune the Management Pack as you bring more agent-managed Exchange 2007 servers into the Operations Manager environment.

Microsoft Transport Suite issues moving attachment more than 29MB in Exchange Server 2007/Windows Server 2008

Hello folks,

If you are moving from Lotus Dominio to Exchange Server and you are having some issues to move attachments larger than 28/29MB and you are also running Exchange Server 2007 on top of a Windows Server 2008, this kb was made for you :)

The issue is caused because IIS 7 has a default limit of 30,000,000 bytes and to change the default behavior we need to add a line to the web.config file containing a key named MaxAllowedContentLength with a value that is higher than the attachment that you are going to move.

How to use Exchange Management Shell to find users based on attributes

Hello folks,

There are a bunch of questions in Microsoft Forums asking how to retrieve information from Exchange Server 2007, such as: how to search all users from a specific department or how many users that have redirection and so forth. Also, some beginners may find complicated to get this information using Exchange Management Shell. So.. I'm going to use a simple scenario and all methods used here can be used to retrieve any other information just comparing values. Let's get some action...

Scenario: Your boss is going to change the company SMTP address and he wants to know how many users will not receive the new SMTP Address coming from E-mail Address Policies because they have the Automatic E-mail Address Policie option disabled. Let's say also that you have no idea what is the attribute name of that specificoption, so.. how can you do that?

First of all, find a guinea pig that can be your mailbox or any other user, we are not going to do nothing special just change some attributes in order to find the attribute name that will be used later on in the final query.

First step, open Exchange Management Console, expand Recipient Configuration and double click in your test user, click on E-mail Addresses tab and make sure that the option that you want to create a report is selected. Then, open an Exchange Management Shell session and type in the following cmdlet:

Get-Mailbox <UserName> | FL

Secont step, let's go back to Exchange Management Console and double click on the same test account and now uncheck the option Automatically update e-mail address based on e-mail address policy and click on Apply and OK. Open a new Exchange Management Shell (We are not going to use the current Exchange Management Shell session must be new one to facilitate the next step) and run the same cmdlet that we had run in the last step, as follows:

Get-Mailbox <UserName> | FL

Why? Because you are going to comparte the differences between the first run and the second run of "Get-Mailbox <UserName> | FL" cmdlet and the difference will be what you are looking for, in our example we want to know the attribute how controls who has the E-mail Address Policy with a disable value, as shown in below.

Okay, now that you know the attribute you just to use it in a pipe to get information from your entire organization, as follows:

Get-Mailbox | where { $_.<AttributeName> -eq <value> }

In our example will be:
Get-Mailbox | where { $_.EmailAddressPolicyEnabled -eq 0 }

Okay, Do you want to impress your boss with a .csv report? :) Not a problem, just add " | export-csv c:\<file-name>.csv" at the end and that's all!

Changing more than 1000 mailboxes at the same time through Exchange Management Shell

Hello folks,

If you need to run a cmdlet that changes one or more attribute of more than 1000 users you will receive an error if you try this following cmdlet:

Get-Mailbox | Set-Mailbox -RulesQuota:256KB

In this specific case we have to use ResultSize parameter in the Get-Mailbox cmdlet to list all your users and then they will be changed by the second cmdlet in the same pipe, as follows:

Get-Mailbox -ResultSize:5000 | Set-Mailbox -RulesQuota:256KB

Note: In this case my result size does not go over 5000 mailboxes. You have to change this value based in your number of mailbxes.

Note #2: There is also the value unlimited for the ResultSize switch which means that you can use -ResultSize unlimited and you don't need to care to add a number higher than your current users because it will get all users no matter how many users you have.

This download will install and register IFilters with the Windows Indexing Service. These IFilters are used by Microsoft Search products to index the contents of specific document formats. This Filter Pack includes IFilters for the following formats: .docx, .docm, .pptx, .pptm, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .zip, .one, .vdx, .vsd, .vss, .vst, .vdx, .vsx, and .vtx.

Because Windows Desktop Search (WDS) consumes IFilters from Windows Indexing Service, the IFilters will be automatically registered and available for use by WDS.
