Hello folks,

Is Exchange Database going to use SQL? I have received the same question in almost all trainings that I delivered. So, the MSExchangeTeam blogged about it, check this out: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/07/16/451784.aspx

If you are a Sybari Antigen 8.0 for Exchange or SMTP Gateways customer, check this out:

Microsoft has decided to extend the end-of-life for Sybari Antigen for Exchange 8.0 and Sybari Antigen for SMTP Gateways 8.0 from December 31, 2008 to December 31, 2009. This decision was made to accommodate the antivirus needs of customers who are still running versions of Exchange prior to Exchange 2000 and who have requested additional time to upgrade in 2009.

The terms of the Sybari Antigen for Exchange 8.0 and Sybari Antigen for SMTP Gateways 8.0 end-of-life extension are as follows:

No product support will be provided after December 31, 2009.

Customers will not be able to receive antivirus engine definition updates after December 31, 2009.

New customers will not be allowed to acquire or deploy Antigen for Exchange 8.0 between December 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009. Only customers currently running Sybari Antigen for Exchange 8.0 or Sybari Antigen for SMTP Gateway 8.0 will be supported.

If an existing Sybari Antigen for Exchange 8.0 or Sybari Antigen for SMTP Gateway 8.0 customer has a contract that expires between now and December 31, 2009, Microsoft will only extend the licensing agreement for the 8.0 version until December 31, 2009.

If you are an existing Microsoft customer, please contact your Microsoft Account Manager to extend your license .cfg files for these products. If you are not an existing Microsoft customer, please send an e-mail to fssadmin@microsoft.com to extend your license .cfg files for these products.

Hello folks,

A new version of Windows Search was released yesterday. This new version has some improvements related to Exchange Server/Outlook. Check this information that came from the Windows Vista Team Blog (http://www.windowsvistablog.com).

Speaking of accessing Microsoft Exchange Server - if your organization selects not to use Microsoft Office Outlook in cached mode, you can set a Group Policy to index Exchange in online mode. Windows Search 4.0 will then index with minimal impact to the server. Our internal testing of this configuration shows significant decrease in the load on the server and the network as compared to Windows Desktop Search 3.01.

There is a new post about the new features of ISA Server 2006 SP1 in the ISA Server Team blog. One of these upcoming features will be the SAN Certificates support.

This Service Pack introduces new features and improved functionality for ISA Server 2006 Enterprise and Standard Editions. The new features focus primarily on enhanced troubleshooting mechanisms designed to help you identify and resolve ISA Server configuration issues. Also included in this package are the updates we've promised for so long, such as SAN certificate support.

Matt Richoux has explained to us how the Transport Dumpster configuration works in a Exchange Server 2007 CCR Cluster. There are some important points that we can resume as it follows:

Dumpster works only with CCR implementation

The maximum size of the Transport dumpster queue per storage group is for all the storage groups

To disable the dumpster we should define to 0

the cmdlet used to define is set-transportconfig

an eventid 2099 will appear when a failover event occurs

the recommended size of MaxDumpsterSizePerStorageGroup should be 3 times more than the maximum message size

when the limit is reached the first in is the first out

Transport Dumpster is a new feature of Exchange Server 2007 Hub Transport servers through which the transport can defer the deletion of certain emails in their queues. The condition for an email to be retained in the transport dumpster is that at least one of the recipient's mailboxes must resides on a CCR mailbox server. This retained email can later be re-delivered if necessary. The amount of mail retained in the queues is a Organization wide setting on the Transport Settings container.

He talks about:

Editions and Licenses

32-bit vs. 64-bit

Exchange 2007 and Virtualization

Evaluations and Product Keys

What's Missing from the 32-bit Version

Final Build - Version Confusion

An important factor in maintaining consistent spam protection over time is ensuring updates to the anti-spam filters are in place.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 leverages the proven Microsoft Update infrastructure for providing anti-spam filter updates and, by default, administrators can visit the MU site to retrieve content filter updates that are being published every two weeks.

An increased level of protection is offered to Enterprise CAL customers, where spam filter updates are more frequent and diverse http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/preview/edition_compare.mspx

Matt Richoux has explained to us how to recovery CCR and SCC cluster environments in Exchange Server 2007.

NOTE: When we say "Exchange 2003 Standby Cluster" we are referring to the configuration discussed here:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/DROpsGuide/2493c2d6-618c-4c49-9cb1-fff556926707.mspx?mfr=true

Exchange Server 2007 does not support a Standby Cluster like Exchange 2003, so what are your options?

With Exchange 2007 we have the ability to recover an Exchange cluster with the exsetup /recoverCMS switch. This is similar to the functionality we have with Exchange 2003 with the setup /disasterRecovery switch with a standalone system.

Note: In Exchange 2007 an Exchange Virtual Server is now called a Clustered Mailbox Server (CMS).

Mu Han bloged about the new version of LCS, called Office Communication Server 2007 but at this momente it will be available only 2500 companies and my company is not one of them :(

I am happy to tell you that we opened a private beta of our new version of Office Communications Server 2007, to 2,500 companies. What's special about this version is that it has a lot of the VoIP capabilities built in. The coolest thing I have experienced as an early tester is the freedom to make VoIP and video calls no matter where I am without going through the trouble of VPN.

This subject was my first article that I've written in the MSExchange.org, you can check out it at http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Transport-Rules-Exchange-Server-2007.html

The post of today in MsExchangeTeam talked about the same subject, as it follows:

Exchange Server 2007 provides an easy and flexible way to set rules for message routing and content restriction by Transport Rules. Transport Rules allow administrators to quickly apply corporate or compliance policies to e-mail messages that flow through an Exchange organization. Transport Rules can be managed with an Exchange Management Console Transport Rules Editor wizard or within the Exchange Management Shell (shell). The Transport Rules Editor wizard is designed to be very similar to the Outlook Rules Wizard, a familiar interface. This blog post introduces the Transport Rules Editor GUI and illustrates how to use it to accomplish an Ethical Firewall scenario.
