Tools for powering Windows and Web Development

I received an e-mail from O'Reilly about the launch of the book Windows Developer Power Tools written by James Avery and Jim Holmes. They also requested me to blog about some of the tools which I use for simplifying the development task daily.

I love SourceFormatX which is available from http://www.textrush.com and I use the shareware version for formatting codes posted by ASPAlliance authors. I am using it for over one year now and it works like a breeze.

Some other products which attracted me a lot are as follows

Instant C#  - converts VB code to C# http://www.tangiblesoftwaresolutions.com/Product_Details/Instant_CSharp/Instant_CSharp.htm

Instant VB - converts C# code to VB http://www.tangiblesoftwaresolutions.com/Product_Details/Instant_VB/Instant_VB.htm

The above two code conversion softwares enabled you to convery VB code into C# and C# code into VB very easily.

I also found some of the powerful ASP.NET Content Management Systems and tools.

DozingDogs - http://www.dozingdogs.com/
MojoPortal - http://www.mojoportal.com
EmagicCMS - http://www.emagiccms.com

Umbraco CMS for ASP.NET - http://www.umbraco.org
Cuyahoga CMS for ASP.NET - http://www.cuyahoga-project.org/

One of the nice features of all the above CMS applications is that all of them are free.

I also found the following two applications. I've not used it but planning to deploy them very soon.

JitBit Help Desk & Forum - http://www.jitbit.com

The authors have covered some of the applications oriented for Web development like DotNetNuke and Community Server but the title of the book doesn't reflect this.

Thanks for participating in Tools Day!

An important point: The title of the book doesn't mean the book targets only folks doing WinForms development.  Rather, it targets developers working on the Windows platform, regardless of the environment (Java, PHP, .NET).  We cover plenty of tools for web development such as the two you mention, plus there's even a separate chapter on ASP.NET libraries and controls.

Again, thanks for participating in Tools Day!

Hello Anand,

I really find a lot of your writing online very useful and thank you very much. I am new myself to C# and like programming in the new framework, but I do not understand a lot of the technicality and examples that are available through microsoft help site. They are pretty hard to understand. I am wondering if you know about axWebBrowser1.Navigate in C#. I am trying to transfer an image file to a webpage with POST.

I know that do it in java with HttpClient, but I know that there is a way to do it in C#. And how do you declare a FILE object in C#?
