AFAIK, Office Web Access is what Office 2010 is going to be for the online version. If you could provide some type of link to info on from Microsoft's site.

Microsoft *has* come up with a version that business can host themselves, Office Web Access will be available to host on-premise as well as in the cloud.

Hi Steve,

I totally agree with you on checking DNS as well. In fact 9 times out of 10 the problem always seems to be something misconfigured in DNS. I'm in the process of another revision to my health check blog and will ensure there is a portion that deals with DNS. Feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions.

I've seen many of these posts regarding ADHC's, no one ever mentions an analysis of the DNS servers to insure they are properly placed and the primary and secondarys are correctly set to resolve to each other, DNSLINT is a good tool for this, especially in child domain environments. A full site to site analysis should be performed as well to make sure sites are contacting the nearest DC. Also I utilize the AD topology mapping tool from Microsoft for a visual map I give my clients. I also run the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and RSOP's for Group policy verification.

I wrote a vb script that reaches out to all the DC's and dumps the tool reports in a common folder, makes it alot easier and it can be run via task scheduler at night.

run Slmgr.vbs –ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (Replace the Xs with oyur numbers)

OK....

But... how do you enter your activation number?, because running the command if you have installed the server by default, the install process enters a dummy activation number, and this one will offcourse not work for activation. How do you enter your own activation number?

You are so right about checking DNS first. I had two seperate incidents this week that were issues because of something in DNS. I do have to say that both times I knew right where to go which isn't always the case. :)

That's something I'm still trying to train myself from as well. Walking into a new environment and just assuming that everything had been set up properly to begin with. Second thing I'm trying to train myself on is to be more swift to check DNS. I find the majority of directory related problems stemming from DNS. Yet I'm always finding myself wandering down too many dead ends before getting to that part. Guess it is all just part of the learning curve!

Hi Askash,

It doesn't really spell it out for you like it did in 2003. That can be found in the old location which is by going to the properties of the server name in the DNS console. From there you still have the forwarders tab but that is where you will put a condition in for all other domains.

The old way offered a "All other DNS domains" option. How can you accomplish setting a forwarding rule for "All other DNS domains" in Server 2008?
