Updated the below section to show how Access 2007 is smarter than I initially though.

Q: How do I set the trusted locations using the runtime?

Access 2007 will go through all the registry entries under the Trusted Locations key. So you can call your trusted location as you desire so long as it doesn't conflict with another applications key. You may want to use your company name and app name or a GUID.

For example
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Access\Security\Trusted Locations\Company Name App Name

I'm planning on adding this functionality to the Auto FE Updater. Soon I hope. As well as the Jet 4.0 Sandbox and Access 2003 Macro security settings.

Installing Access 2003 runtime with SP3 and hotfix part 2

You will likely wish to install the Office 2003 security patches subsequent to SP3 into your runtime using the same techniques as for the hotfix as mentioned in the above document. While in a test operating system in Virtual PC I ran Microsoft Update and found these extra fixes. They only added about 20 Kb to the runtime file after SP3 was installed however, using Microsoft Update and the overhead per update it would've been about one Mb per fix. Painful on dialup. Also I feel it's much more professional to have things neat and tidy.

However Microsoft Updates still wants to download the security patches. Which I thought was quite interesting. I'm still going to apply the security patches so there is no vulnerability until the next time the updates are downloaded and installed. While the chances are small there could be a problem I'm not willing to risk it. Also if the user is on dialup it could take a considerable length of time before three or five megabytes worth of updates trickle down to the PC.

Do not miss the existence of the adminexecute.idt and work with the AdvtExecuteSequence.idt. As did someone who shall remain nameless. Ayup, your dumb*ss blogger.

Also note that Microsoft has closed the security hole where the unpatched version of the Access 2003 runtime would not get updated with SP3 by Microsoft Update. The problem though is that Microsoft Update wants to download the entire 100 or so Mb Office 2003 SP3. Not the ideal solution but ok for folks on high speed Internet. Of course this would not update the Access runtime with the KB945674 hotfix which fixes the combo box problem.

Adding Programs to Access 2007 Deployment Packages is a video using PDF & XPS Addin Setup as the example. This demo gets right down into the setup.ini file.

Mike Stowe did a fine job of smoothly saying PDF & XPS Addin Setup quite a number of times. I'm sure I would've stumbled a few times on that one.

Deploy Access 2003 runtime with SP2

Tim Lentine asked about this topic in the Microsoft newsgroups. However I didn't have an answer. He subsequently found a very interesting posting on how Deploy Access 2003 runtime with SP2 built in. Go down about six postings to the longish posting and keep on reading. This isn't for the faint of heart but looks very interesting.

Access 2007 runtime update

Access 2007 Download: Access Runtime Note the updated date and the version 2.

Also note that this runtime contains the very important updates which were contained in Office 2007 SP1. "This version of the Access 2007 Runtime contains files whose versions are slightly higher than the level of the same files that are updated by Office 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1)."

Updated the Microsoft Access 2000 Developer Edition FAQ page

I've updated the Microsoft Access 2000 Developer Edition FAQ to include a link to fellow MVP Sascha Trowitzsch interesting page How to patch an Access 2000 Runtime package to Service Pack 3.

Also the lead paragraph states the following: "The Access 2000 runtime requires a reboot after install. At least it did in my limited testing. Thus I do not recommend the Access 2000 runtime for that reason alone."

According to Clint Access Runtime is on Hold. Better to get it right. Irritating for some I know but I support Microsoft's decision to hold off on this.

According to Eric Rucker Access 2007 Developer Extensions and Runtime are LIVE!!!

Well, almost. As of this posting one link worked but the other didn't.

Added: I'm told that it can take a while to update all the servers in the various server gangs.

Access 2007 runtime will be shipping in a few weeks.
