Aug. 7, 1944: Harvard, IBM Dedicate Mark I Computer We've come a long way. (Note that there is some dispute whether Grace Hopper actually coined the term "computer bug")
Note the now amusing quote at the bottom of the story. Aiken ... predicted, "Only six electronic digital computers would be required to satisfy the computing needs of the entire United States."
I was privileged to hear Grace Hopper speak at a CIPS meeting in Edmonton in the mid 1980s. (They had to move the regular meeting as 500 people showed up instead of the regular 250.) She talked about nanosecond and how we needed much faster computers. As much as 1000 times faster. She also appeared on the Letterman show. That video is well worth watching.
