A Typical Windows Server Update Services Blog.
Thank you for this solution. I haven't been able to update my development machine for weeks and this simple fix did the trick!
Thanks so much. Worked like a charm after trying so many other "fixes".
Unfortunately there is still no feature to download, search or interface with the local 40 digit file on your local server.
Windows 2000 is suported within the WSUS 3.o beta 2 version
The steps in the workaround worked for me without adding the regsvr32 msxml3.dll.
Thanks!
its working ,
i search almost 10 pages of google and all

WOW, Thank you very much for this script!
worked like a charm :-)
Tnx Guys for great site!!!! Visit this links to make better your poor health:
"SSL to localhost is a bit much."
The importance of the message is that communication between the WSUS server and its managed clients is not SSL protected.
And yet again, Microsoft releases another product that doesn't always work out of the box. I had to use the 3rd solution to fix a new installation of Windows 2003 server to update from our WSUS server.
Thanks for this posting, it sure helped.
Nice tip....
Very handy
THX
I had this problem too, but its not working after resaving all sync-settings. do anybody know a further solution or anything else?

Thank you!!! Been battling with the SP4 thing for a while...... I would say that after you do the install, you should correct the SQL version so it thinks its SP4 again...
I noticed the proceedure above is not the same as the proceedure at the link.... neither of which work for me.
The proceedure above gives me a ddl error, and the link give me non declared errors.
The current version (1.2) supports also:
- Deadlines
- Multiple group approval
- Text searching
hello makakas http://msmvps.com/blogs/athif/archive/2006/05/07/Whats_new_in_WSUS_3_0.aspx
Hi guys,
Well, we have a similar problem. Updates managed by group policy in our AD are:
1. Download and Install at 2am each day
2. Allow Non-Admins to receive notifications.
Other notable settings via script and Wake On Lan:
1. Turn on PC at 1:30am
2. Restart PC at 5:00am
All users in our environment are part of a PC Administrators group, which is added to the Local PC Administrators group on each computer.
With these settings, I would have expected the user to get a message. This is correct...for Windows XP, but not for Windows 2000. Non-Admin users on a Win2K pc do not get a notification to install updates.
Why are we doing it this way? To accommodate for laptop users whose laptops will be off the network.
So, when an update is available for an XP user who is using a laptop, they will be notified that updates are ready to be installed.
Why doesn't this work for Windows 2000???
Craig
unable to view client machines in WSUS web gui even thiugh they are picking the updates from wsus server
I have that error in my WindowsUpdate log file and our WSUS server only has 360 records in the tblEventInstance so there must be something else causing this?????
The link to the article above does not work.
So once I've set a deadline on a patch, how can I review deadlines? There's no way in the gui to filter patches that have deadlines set!
Fixed all my timeout errors when changing/setting approvals on multiple updates and the slow access to the admin config pages.
So what does this SQL script actually do??

Main Upstream Server: (3200+ users)
Win2003 STD SP1 / IIS 6.0
Secondary Downstream Server: (300+ users)
Win2000 STD SP4 / IIS 5.0
SQL Server:
Win2003 ENT SP1 / SQL 2000 SP4
3500+ Workstations total
I have also understand that Microsoft don’t feature in WSUS 3.0

This is nothing for an URL! As a domain name, it is really, really long. But actually the URL also includes the stuff after the domain name.
I propose http://www.skolverket.se/sb/d/193/url/0068007400740070003a002f002f0077007700770034002e0073006b006f006c007600650072006b00650074002e00730065003a0038003000380030002f00770074007000750062002f00770073002f0073006b006f006c0062006f006b002f0077007000750062006500780074002f0074007200790063006b00730061006b002f0042006c006f0062002f007000640066003600300037002e007000640066003f006b003d003600300037/target/pdf607.pdf%3Fk%3D607 as a candidate for the longest URL. It is 411 characters long and is actually used as a URL on an official web site. Many of the compeitiors are specifically designed to be as long as possible, which in my opinion should not count.
What the link is about? It refers to some Swedish rules about public daycare.
Have installed the tool and works okay. One problem is that we use a dns alias (redirects) to get the client to download from the server which is closest by. So for clients which connect to different WSUS servers the reporting is overwritten by the last report that is imported.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Ever since I've become aware of the SUS/WSUS program I've been asking for two very simple things. Office 2K and Load-From-Disk Support.
Can we please get Office 2K support? Office 2K is used heavily throughout the Government and Commercial world, even though it is old.
The ability to load patches off of a removeable disk would be extremely useful. I'm on a network with a maximum bidirectional data rate of 32 kilobits a second. I routinely see ping times of close to 1000ms. A large sevice pack can take WEEKS to download.
I've found a tool (OHotFix) that is a stop gap, but it'd be more useful to see it integrated into WSUS.
Thanks,
SeaGROL
The script worked well for us, had to place quotes around the pathname to OSQL.exe, then it worked well.
I also found that all of our WSUS installs used the default database naming, so I replaced the %1 with %COMPUTERNAME%\WSUS and now it's a clickable batchfile.
Since we had to move ~20 clients to standalone mode, this will be a huge timesaver for us.

The stored procedure does not work on MSDE.
The error message is as follows
Msg 2782, Level 16, State 1, Server ***, Procedure spSRMCountComputersNeedingUpdates, Line 82
DDL statement is not allowed.
Any ideas? thanks
wen i try to sign in my windows live messenger it says error 80072efd and den the troubleshooter doesnt repair it, after testing my TCP connection at tools/options/connenction/advance settings it says error 8007274d. Its been doin dat for dayz now.. i tried a lot of solutions on the niternet but none of em wurked.. i Need help!
:( :( :( :( :(
Would there be any reason why i cannot add users to a scope? The add button is grayed out.
Really need WGA to be distributable by WSUS. The problem is here we deploy WindowsDefender using AD. Appearantly Defender doesn't like retrieving updates if WGA isn't installed.
Might be just me tho' :/.
thanks! really speeds things up!
please

Hey workinglate, I know it's about 6 months later but try http://www.kbalertz.com/Feedback_920659.aspx if things still aren't working for you ;)
Worked like a charm
thanks
Very good information. Corrected our problems right away.
Thank you.
Best regards

After adding the users to the local groups, I still get the error.
Worked for me but I had to adjust some permissions, assigned full control rights over root folder "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Selfupdate" to domain admin account, and used that account in the allow anonymous specified account.
Thanks for the plug, PatchAholic....

QFECheck doesn't work in Windows 2003.
Have a look at User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Update. If the option "Remove access to use all Windows Update is set to Enabled then the fix described here will not work. Setting the option to disabled seems to get rid of the nag screen altogether and replaces it with the shield icon in the taskbar with the popups that you normally see on vanilla desktops.
i have that same problem and i cant find any solution. when i try to sign in my windows live messenger it says error 80072efd and den the troubleshooter doesnt repair it, after testing my TCP connection at tools/options/connenction/advance settings it says error 8007274d. I cant find any solution and I am desperate because I cant sign in anywhere not even on yahoo mail or hotmail. What can I do!!!
Thanks for this, has really helped me out!!
Nice blog!!
Yah I noticed it too, not sure what to recommend to the business yet. Might deny it for now, its not needed for anything we are running yet. Then again it couldn't hurt... or could it? ;)
thanks!
there is another Q:
how can i connect to SUS database (SUSDB)?
what are username and password os SUS database (SUSDB)?
thank u !
You can use SQL Enterprise Manager.
http://msmvps.com/blogs/thenakedmvp/archive/2006/08/30/111258.aspx If you are seeing that Automatic updates
Yes, we tried it also for a test group. There did not to seem to be any problems but I am foregoing to not roll it out to the production workstations.
hello,
How can I retrieve the list of computers in "reboot pending" ? Is there a document describing the schema database ?
Cheers
