Issue with Settings.txt not saving the CabPoolPath location in Software Update Services, SUS

In this article, I will explain an Issue with Settings.txt('C:\inetpub\wwwroot\autoupdate­\dictionaries\settings.txt') not saving the CabPoolPath location.

SYMPTONS

Changes applied to Settings.txt('C:\inetpub\wwwroot\autoupdate\dictionaries\settings.txt') are not saved.

CAUSE

The real cause for this behavior is unknown.

WORKAROUND

In such case, try this approach;

1. Save the CabPoolPath, Your SUS Installation Drive:\sus\content\cabs

2. Repair SUS Installation.

3. Reboot Server.

4. Check CabPoolPath and see if it points correctly.

5. If yes, do a manual sync to confirm the changes.

6. If NO, POST your results on microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs and will try to assist you.

The cause of this issue is the service is running when you're trying to modify the file.
The file will be restored automatically.
Stop first SUS Service, modify the file and save it.
