MCMS Licensing ... My customers have some confusion...

7.12.2004 | 8:31 pm

If you are going to be running MCMS Standard Edition there are a couple of licensing issues that you should be aware of:

Single CPU Machine

  • Only require 1 CPU license (obviously)

Multiple CPU Machine

  • MCMS Standard Edition can ONLY bind to 1 CPU.
  • Only require 1 CPU licenses

MCMS Standard Edition Rules

  • < 15 users other than subscribers
  • 1 host header (ie. 1 domain)
    • Although the SCA says it is not possible you can configure 1 host header.
  • No clustering (ie. 2 front end MCMS servers backing onto 1 database)
  • 1 CPU supported
  • No site stager (ie. taking a static copy of the website) - Out of the box ASP Site Stager will not work but with ASP.NET but there are ways around it, see GotDotNet
  • Cannot add AD User Groups to non subscriber roles (must add users directly)
  • Cannot add AD User Groups to subscriber role without hotfix (see here)

MCMS Enterprise Edition Rules

  • Unlimited users (subscribers or editors)
  • Unlimited host headers
  • Clustering Supported
  • Unlimited CPU's supported (1 license per CPU)
  • Site stager supported (ie. taking a static copy of the website) (not when using ASP.NET but there are ways around it, see GotDotNet)

I think this is all correct... If I am incorrect I'm sure an angry product manager will be emailing me.
